Use elegant velvets, rich leathers and soft cottons together and create a sophisticated rustic design direction. Joe suggests hanging antique quilts and in this room, a marvelous collection of Native American portraits also creates this rustic design direction. To create a Tuscan style bath, Joe used Kohler "Vintage Bath Suite." (in color Chamois) Tumbled marble from Anne Sacks Tile and Stone, antique mirrors, rustic lighting from Quorem International Lighting, large classic urns and lacquered walls, in Glidden paint color "Day Star" (#25YY62-353) complete this rustic style master bath.
The living room/dining room and study flow from room to room with Joe's selection of Premier Hardwood Flooring in a herringbone pattern to unify this space. A selection of antique reproductions and comfortable seating, in soft chenille and cotton damask give this room an old world feeling. Glidden paint color "Coconut Milk" (#25YY85-108). |
A home office with an Italian spirit is created using a large dining table as the desk in a rustic finish. Venetian inspired chairs with a distressed charcoal finish and bold red and white-stripped seats compliment the room design. An ingenious apothecary cabinet hides a computer workstation. A collection of silent screen star photos grace the walls. Walls are painted in Glidden's paint color "Ivory Beige" (#10YY68-110).
Comfort in the living room with this oversized Chaise creates a wonderful environment for reading relaxing or television viewing. A large rectangular dining table make this the perfect dining room for entertaining. When the dining room is large enough, Joe suggests adding an upholstered conversation group, like this one covered in luxurious wool. Walls are Gliddenıs "Soft Wheat" (#90YR48-183).
This double island kitchen is designed for entertaining and the master chef. An area for clean-up, prep, cooking and baking make this a very efficient kitchen. Stainless steel appliances are from General Electric. The French limestone floor from Walker Zanger make this a very special work environment. |
A French inspired apartment gives this bedroom its clean sleek look. Joe commissioned New York's talented Faux artist, Rebecca Spivack, to create a wall mural that is a contemporary piece of art. Floors are covered in a ceramic limestone and Tibetan wool area rugs.
The mirrored vanities, by Robern, are as versatile as you want them to be. They provide a variety of lighting options as well as interior options, such as a lock box for prescriptions and lighting outlets. Mosaic tiles are from Ann Sacks Tile and Stone. Joe likes to use carts in the bathroom to organize towels, shampoos and sundries. |
Inspired by his love of the Mediterranean, Joe has used brilliant shades of blue mosaic tiles from Ann Sacks Tile and Stone. Joe likes to design dining rooms that perform in more ways than just dining. In this home in Columbus, Ohio, Joe has created a dining room that also functions as a library, using book stacks and a dining table that has been draped with a crisp linen print. This room can be used for reading and relaxing as well as elegant dining. |
The artwork on the wall isn't really "artwork" at all. It is the new Flat TV from Philips. It mounts right on the wall and is only 4 inches deep. This technological system can integrate your computer, television and DVD, while creating a focal point and conversation piece in any room. Wall Glidden paint color "Misty Glen" (#60YY67-117).

Room arrangement is most important to maximize the full potential of the room. In this particular room, Joe has made the Television unit and the fireplace both focal points of the room. Using hidden doors and moldings that coordinate with the mantel and fireplace, Joe is able to combine relaxation with entertainment. |
Windows today are becoming part of the design scheme of a room. This wall of windows, from Pella, adds light and architectural interest to the room. The concept of mixing and matching window components makes this room interesting and brings the beautiful landscape indoors.

Joe is big on comfort for any room. Pillows for color accents and decorative throws are great for those chilly nights and also add texture and color to any sofa. A generous size cocktail table is also part of Joe's design plan. It makes for a great surface for TV dining, art books and all kinds of decorative objects. |
Interesting moldings and cabinetry give this room a traditional Georgian look. A cabinet hides the television for more formal times. Glidden paint color "Sand Dollar Shell" (#70YR83-026).
